My dad and I have been busy. Hunting season wasn't successful if you measure success by body counts. I had numerous deer within range of both my bow and rifle. I had 4 clear shots. I passed on all but one. I believe that my 2 mistakes were that 1.) I didn't spend enough time in the stand and 2.) I failed to take the shots that were presented to me, instead hoping for a better shot.
But if you count success in knowledge and enjoyment, it was a successful season and then some. I learned a ton about wildlife movements on this property and in general. I enjoyed several sunrises. At one point I had a Hawk land on a treelimb just 10 feet from me while in my treestand. I enjoyed more than just a couple days in the woods hunting with my daughter. She and I have fun just being there. We learned a lot about each other. That's success.
One the opening day of archery deer season, the loggers showed up to start their work of clearing our storm damaged land. They have now cleared quite a few trees and returned the lumber cut from these trees. In the next couple of months we will start construction on a cabin to be used as a weekend family retreat.
Below is a slideshow that shows what the PSP (Pint Sized Ponderosa) currently looks like. If you want to compare, there is a slideshow posted on Oct 1, 2011 that shows the progress at that point as well as one on June 1 showing the late spring survey of the property.
Enjoy.
